How Much CBD Should You Take?

Despite the legalization of medical marijuana in many states, most physicians are reluctant to prescribe cannabinoids such as cannabidiol (CBD), making it difficult to determine what dosages you should use. Cannabidiol is not yet in any pharmacology handbooks, and scientists are only now beginning to create dosing guidelines for medical marijuana and medicinal hemp extracts. Here are some important things to know when determining the best dose of CBD for your needs.

Each Person Is Different

Keep in mind that we are only providing general guidelines as a starting point for reference. Everyone will react differently to CBD products, and each product will be slightly different. The recommended serving size or dosage of CBD will differ for each individual, and so it’s best to start with the smallest dose and gradually increase the amount until you achieve the desired results. Remember, some people only need to take one aspirin for pain relief, while others may require more for the same effect.

CBD Dosage Information

Consumers are often confused because different CBD oil brands seem to have different standards. This is because there is no real standard for dosing with CBD products. However, there are still some places where you can find information on recommended dosing. The Mayo Clinic offers a dosing page for marijuana, THC, CBD, and related compounds that can be very helpful as a starting point, as all recommended doses are based on actual research.

CBDOilReview.org came up with the COR Serving Standard of 25 mg of CBD taken twice daily as a starting point for most people trying CBD for the first time. They then recommend increasing the dosage by 25 mg every three to four weeks until you experience the desired relief of your symptoms. In addition, they offer suggested CBD doses for a number of specific medical conditions including chronic pain, epilepsy, Huntington’s disease, multiple sclerosis, glaucoma, and schizophrenia. Another website that offers suggested dosing guidelines is HOW MUCH CBD SHOULD I TAKE?

Please keep in mind that CBD concentrations vary in different forms and brands, from just one mg per “dose” to hundreds of milligrams. Be sure to carefully read the label to ensure that you are taking the desired amount of CBD. Also, we are not suggesting any specific dose as we are not legally allowed to do so. We are merely providing you with references and suggesting that you consult your physician if you have questions or concerns.

What About Taking Too Much CBD?

According to CannLabs, the largest full-service cannabis product testing lab in the US, no lethal CBD dose has been established. Consumers should always read all product inserts thoroughly to ensure that they are taking the correct amount of any CBD product. If you have any questions or concerns about the amount of CBD you are takin or possible interactions with other drugs, consult your physician.

How Do I Take CBD Oil?

The most commonly recommended method of ingesting CBD is orally using tinctures or oils placed under the tongue. You should make sure you avoid swallowing for a minimum of 90 seconds to allow the CBD to be absorbed directly into your bloodstream. CBD that is swallowed will be broken down by your digestive system, reducing its bioavailability so that you require a larger dose to achieve the same results. Vaporizers are another effective way to avoid ingesting CBD through your digestive system. CBD can also be taken orally in capsules, mouth strips, and gum, or it can be absorbed through the skin in lotions, creams, balms or patches, although these tend to take longer to work.
